Commentary
9.20pm local: As expected, the match has been called off. The outfield was left saturated by the heavy rain earlier in the evening. Nothing that the groundstaff could do with the limited resources that they had. So the points will be shared between the teams. That's all for now. Let's hope no other matches suffer this fate. Until next time, it's goodbye!
8.45pm local: The outfield is completely saturated. Umpires are walking out to inspect the conditions and you can see water splashing up from the ground as they walk across. Really hard to see how they'll get it ready in time for a five-over match. But no official word yet so we wait.
Update on conditions and cut-off time | Umpires Ahsan Raza and Asif Yaqoob: Right now, you can see there’s a lot of water on the covers and the ground staff are working very hard using manual equipment to remove it, especially from areas where puddles have formed - we are optimistic and hopeful that we can at least get a five-over game depending on how conditions improve (on current ground conditions after rain). Before the rain, the ground was in perfect condition, but after rain you can’t expect everything to be ideal - if we can get even around 50 percent conditions, especially outside the 30-yard circle, we will try our best to have a game (on minimum playable conditions). The ground staff mentioned they have limited resources right now - they can’t use the big supersopper on the field because it’s too soft and it might damage the surface for future games, so they are relying on manual drying which takes more time, although they are testing the big machine outside the playing area (on recovery efforts). If there is no more rain, they estimate it could take around one and a half to two hours to get things ready, and with the wind helping, we are hopeful that in the next 30 minutes we will have a clearer idea of the timeline (on expected delay). The cut-off time for a five-over game is around 9:40–9:46, including a short interval between innings (on match timing constraints).
7.10pm local: Rain has stopped. But there's a lot of work to be done for the groundstaff. Going to take significant time.
6.23pm local: Oops, looks like it's raining heavily in Lahore right now. There are huge puddles of water on the outfield. We're in for a delay.
