Commentary
They may be struggling on the table, but there's much to celebrate for Kingsmen tonight. First ever win for the franchise in PSL. That's all from us today. Hope you enjoyed our coverage of the double-header. Join us back tomorrow. Goodbye!
Marnus Labuschagne | Hyderabad Kingsmen captain: I think the games that we have played the last three, we've put in some good performances and snippets, and tonight we put it together with bat and ball. I think we started really well with the bat. And Hunain Shah, that last over again, unbelievable over to have that last over for four or five. And just the pressure that we created with our thing in the back end was awesome. And then for Hassan to get us over the line with Irfan Khan there at the end was just great for the club and for the team. (What have they done differently today as a team?) I think we just held our nerve at the end there. I think that was a pretty pressured scenario, needing 10s for the last five overs. And Irfan Khan and Hassan just stayed composed. Then let the game come to them. And they took their matchups really well. And I think every game we've tried to make sure we're reading the game and reading the matchups and making sure if we need to shift the batting order, we do that. Or if we need to change some things, we do that to match up as best we can. (On the target they were set) I probably would have liked a little bit less. I think Moeen came out and played a really nice innings, struck at 300 plus. So I would have liked probably a few less. But then as we did say at the toss, we're hoping that if we could quicken it up and the ball could keep on a little bit more at night, it's sort of what happened. I felt like during the day it held a bit more. And then during the night, it skidded off.
Moeen Ali | Karachi Kings captain: (On scoring 188 on that pitch) Yeah, definitely. I thought in the end from where we were we did well to get that score. I think we had a bit of momentum into the bowling, but I think our powerplay bowling was not great. Obviously it started with me, but we fought really well and I think that the positive of tonight is that we did show fight, which we've probably been missing over the last few games. But yeah, I mean, obviously we still lost and it is disappointing. (Having too many bowling options) I don't mind it to be honest with you, but you just go with your gut feel a lot of the time. I back my bowlers. I thought Abbas was outstanding tonight. And yeah, it's great to have those options to be honest with you. I think, but you've got to be also real that not everyone's going to bowl all the time, their full quota of overs. (Did moving from Lahore to Karachi add to the woes?) No, you can have that in the competition. You win three in a row, but it doesn't mean you've automatically going to qualify. We had a break of seven days, which probably wasn't great for our team because we did have a lot of momentum, but there's no excuses. We just got to come back strong and I hope just get the combination right.
Hassan Khan | PoTM: When I went inside, like Irfan Khan was already there. So, we were pretty confident that if we both played all five overs, we could easily chase it, and that's what we did. (On experience of having played in Pakistan) Yeah, I try like as much as I can. I just pass on my knowledge and everyone, the guys who are from Pakistan as well, they also try to just keep telling whatever is the best for the team. (Playing global leagues) Definitely, it helps like when you play all around the world, you play in different conditions and you get to learn a lot. And that's what I'm trying to just implement what I'm learning. Thank you so much.
10.44pm local: The Kingsmen are off the mark. What a superb run-chase, starting with Marnus Labuschagne who made the decision to open the innings and provided a quickfire start. After his dismissal there was a superb partnership between Maaz Sadaqat and Usman Khan. At one stage it looked like they would cruise home but there was a collapse as they lost four wickets for just 16 runs. It was left to the duo of Irfan Khan and Hassan Khan to get them over the line with some brilliant batting lower down the order.
Khushdil Shah to Hassan Khan, 1 run, first-ever win for Hyderabad Kingsmen in the PSL! Drifting down leg, Hassan looks to sweep and drags it off the under-edge in front of short fine. After four losses in a row, they finally get over the line
Khushdil Shah [2.0-0-21-1] is back into the attack
Labuschagne with a smile on his face
End of Over 0: N/A runs, N/A wkts
Hasan Ali to Hassan Khan, 1 run, dragged off the inside half behind square, just one needed
Hasan Ali to Hassan Khan, FOUR, that should seal it! Short ball that rushes Hassan on the pull, gets big on him and goes off the top-edge over short fine
Hasan Ali to Hassan Khan, 2 runs, cuts it away through point and back for two
Hasan Ali to Hassan Khan, 2 runs, in the air off the leading edge, falls short of long-on! Good length on the pads, he looks to swipe across the line but miscues it in the air. Gets away with it
Hasan Ali to Hassan Khan, no run, slower short ball, he's through the pull too early
Hasan Ali to Hassan Khan, FOUR, full outside off, Hassan goes down the ground and lofts it over mid-off, what a knock he's playing
Hasan Ali [3.0-0-29-1] is back into the attack
End of Over 0: N/A runs, N/A wkts
Abbas Afridi to Hassan Khan, 1 run, now goes fuller, Hassan looks to slog and gets an inside edge onto pad
Abbas Afridi to Hassan Khan, SIX, again Hassan has absolutely nailed the pull shot. Short of length just above the waist, and he smokes it over square leg. Afridi covers his face with his shirt in frustration
Abbas Afridi to Hassan Khan, no run, angled in around off, back of a length, Hassan gets an inside edge onto pad
Abbas Afridi to Irfan Khan, 1 run, again he takes pace off, Irfan looks to cut and chops it off the under-edge onto the popping crease
Abbas Afridi to Hassan Khan, 1 run, slower ball on the pads, clipped behind square
