Commentary
That's all from this game. There's another double-header coming up tomorrow. Do join us for all the action. Until next time, goodbye and stay safe..
Marnus Labuschagne: That was brilliant. Yeah, I don't have too many words for that. That whole game was pretty special. Saw two pretty special hundreds, firstly from Steve, that was captain's nightmare there. And, a lot of credit's got to go to our bowlers for that last three overs. I don't know the exact numbers, but I think the last three overs didn't go for many runs. And I think that was probably the difference in the game. And then Usman to come out, especially with the tournament that he's had. He's not [had] the perfect tournament for him. And to come out there with that confidence and clarity to take the game on, and was just special. (Akif Javed being an inspired selection) I think we've been sort of tossing and turning with that position. And Akif came in today and finished off the innings really well. And a lot of credit's got to go to those guys. You know, we've put a lot of faith in Hunain Shah and Mohammad Ali. And Akif came in and delivered today as well. And probably the one we haven't spoke about is Hassan Khan, who bowled beautifully on what a very good surface. And, you know, 24 off seven or six, what he got done to ice the game like that. Yeah, that was smart. (If Usman asked to be dropped) Yeah, he sort of said, I think I need a couple of games off. And I said, give me a couple of games off, mate. I know how good you are. And I think that's just what this team has done. We've just believed in the people that we've got and trusted them. And it's paying off.
Ashton Turner: I thought we had a good score on the board. We probably assessed that the par was 190-200. It's a good wicket. And you combine that with a fast, hard outfield and some pretty small boundaries that's a par. (You must have thought you were in the game at 48/3) Yeah, of course we did. We thought we're in a really good position. And that's the challenge of professional cricket. And, what is a really good high-quality competition, the PSL. And there's good players everywhere you look across all of the teams. And, they're no different. They had some quality middle order batters in particular today who put us under pressure and, played some remarkable innings. Yeah, we've had another few really pleasing contributions. We've got some quality cricketers in our side who are going beautifully. We dusted ourselves off pretty quickly. We know that we need to keep playing our best cricket, keep finding ways to learn and improve. But today was probably the first time that we've really been put under pressure in a close game. So it's nice to get a close game out of the way and hopefully we'll be better for that going forward.
Usman Khan | Player of the Match: Since PSL has started my team has believed in me, even I told to rest me when I was not performing but they backed me and said you will perform. The plan was to play like lions and not like cats since the tournament started. Hopefully I continue this way, there are still a lot of matches to come.
22:46 Local Time, 17:46 GMT, 23:16 IST: What a game! It swung both ways, but Hyderabad Kingsmen held their nerve in the end. They were 48/3 in the powerplay - should’ve been 48/4, but Multan Sultans missed a caught-behind appeal that gave Usman Khan a lifeline. He made them pay, taking the attack on and smashing a stunning 44-ball century, even quicker than Smith’s earlier ton. His stand with Marnus Labuschagne set up the chase perfectly. Siddle struck back with three big wickets, including Usman, Marnus and Maxwell, to keep Multan in it. But Hassan Khan sealed it in style with a blazing 24 off 6. A huge win for Kingsmen - keeping them alive and lifting them from seventh to fourth in the points table. Presentations coming up..
Muhammad Ismail to Hassan Khan, SIX, Hyderabad Kingsmen win by 4 wickets. Hassan Khan has done it in style. 6-ball 24 from him to finish the game. He jumps up and does a fist pump. Short of length delivery, sits up nicely outside off and Hassan gets hold of the pull, he middles it and sends the ball sailing over the deep mid-wicket fence
Muhammad Ismail to Irfan Khan, 1 run, low full toss, Irfan moves away and drills it to long-on. 6 off 4..
Muhammad Ismail to Hassan Khan, 1 run, dropped! Length delivery, angled in and Hassan heaves it towards deep square leg. Wasim Jr comes in and bends down, gets both hands but does not hang on. That was regulation and should have been pouched. Will it hurt them?
8 off the last over. Ismail to bowl. Can he pull it off? Let's see..
Muhammad Ismail [3.0-0-33-3] is back into the attack
End of Over 0: N/A runs, N/A wkts
Mohammad Wasim Jr to Irfan Khan, no run, bouncer around off, Irfan stands tall and attempts the ramp, misses and the umpire deems it a fair delivery
Mohammad Wasim Jr to Hassan Khan, 1 run, short of length delivery, Hassan pulls along the ground to deep square leg
Mohammad Wasim Jr to Hassan Khan, FOUR, Wasim Jr is letting the game go. Full pitcher outside off, Hassan drives it hard into the ground the placement was perfect, bisects mid-off and extra cover with precision
Mohammad Wasim Jr to Hassan Khan, SIX, two balls, two sixes for Hassan. This is a gift from Wasim Jr - full toss angling down leg, Hassan just had to help it along the way, he does that and the ball lands flush on the ad cushions
Mohammad Wasim Jr to Irfan Khan, 1 run, comes down the track and yorks himself, squeezes it to backward point and crosses over
Mohammad Wasim Jr to Irfan Khan, SIX, back to back sixes. Irfan joins the party. Wasim Jr does not nail the yorker, full delivery outside off, Irfan bends his back knee and smokes it over deep extra cover. That's an incredible shot..
End of Over 0: N/A runs, N/A wkts
Peter Siddle to Hassan Khan, SIX, just over the fielder. The short of length delivery does not work against Hassan, he's waiting for that, transfers his weight back and pulls it to deep mid-wicket. Nawaz leaps but the ball evades his grasp
Hassan Khan, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Peter Siddle to Usman Khan, out Caught&Bowled!! Is that the game? Siddle has turned the game around. In his last two overs he's got the wickets of Marnus, Maxwell and centurion Usman Khan. Short and banged into the wicket, Usman charges down and gives himself room, has to reach for the flat-batted hit and toe-ends it straight up. The ball goes towards mid-wicket and Siddle goes after it, covers a bit of ground whilst running backwards and hangs onto a good catch. He's pumped and so are the rest of the Multan players. This is a massive moment in the game. Usman Khan c and b Peter Siddle 101(47) [4s-5 6s-10]
Peter Siddle to Usman Khan, THATS OUT!! Caught&Bowled!!
