Commentary
KKR somehow need to put in a combination that clicks with ball and bat. If a team isn't doing well, it's usually because the team lacks balance. It's indeed a massive headache if they don't have resources in the bench. You are generally looking at 16 points for qualification so there's still time but teams at the bottom need to get their act right quickly. Tomorrow the well-balanced MI take on RR. Even RR don't have too many issues with their combo. They just stole a game against GT and they are back in Guwahati for this mega contest. We will see you all tomorrow. Good night!
22:59 Local Time, 17:29 GMT: The umps have a chat with the captains and we see handshakes. That means the game has been called off. KKR are off the mark this season with this one point. If this was a 5-over game they could have been at the receiving end because they only have 1.2 overs left and not much on the board. Even with DLS, the target wouldn't have been high for PBKS.
22:45 Local Time, 17:15 GMT, 22:45 IST: There is a lot of water outside the boundary line. The groundstaff are moving swiftly to get rid of the covers. Meanwhile the umps continue to inspect spots. 29 minutes left for the 5-over game to start.
22:35 Local Time, 17:05 GMT: Carefully the covers are being removed. "Umpires are checking the square," informs Aadya. Looks like there is some moisture on the outfield. We can see Sourav Ganguly, CAB president, talking to the groundstaff.
22:28 Local Time, 16:58 GMT: Great news! Rain has stopped. But do we have enough time for the restart? We have only 46 minutes left for the 5-over game to start. It's not just about removing the covers and starting the game. There is a lot of water on the covers so that will need a fair bit of mopping before they get rid of the covers. And then the umps will need time for an inspection. So we are running really tight. Fingers crossed!
22:18 Local Time, 16:48 GMT: "Still a steady drizzle. Should be abandoned soon. There are still some spectators waiting in hope" - reports Aadya Sharma
22:08 Local Time, 16:38 GMT: The situation at Eden Gardens has not improved since our last update. Persistent rain continues to fall across the stadium, and the outlook remains grim for fans hoping for a restart.
Shivam: KKR's combination just isn't clicking right now. If you play Rahane then Narine can't open who is most impactful as an opener. Another big question is selection of Ramandeep Singh. Right now, he doesn't clearly fit in any role. He clearly is not a finisher and can't give you reliable 1-2 overs.
Siddharth: Finn Allen and Tim Seifert should be opening for KKR to make proper use of the powerplay and they are both in excellent form. Jinx can come in one down and take on the spinners
Nadeem: Despite going in with one of the highest purses, CSK and KKR are still struggling with team balance. Lesson from the Indian Premier League: big money can't fix poor combinations - get it right in the mega auction, mini auction is just patchwork.
Prosenjit Sengupta: The whole problem starts with the captaincy and selection. I am not seeing Green as a performer and rather drop him and bring Rachin Ravindra who will give 2-3 solid overs. Moreover using Narine on top and in slog overs could be an option. I will also pick Tejaswi Dahiya instead Ramandeep.
21:15 Local Time, 15:45 GMT: We are hearing that the cut-off time for a 5-over contest is 23:14.
Pratik Sanjiv: KKR has always been successful when Sunil Narine has opened the innings for them. I would bring him on the top along with Finn Allen. That would be deadly combo!!

"There's now strong wind to add to the drizzle, It's so strong it's blown a portion of the covers out of position. Groundstaff scrambling to put them back" informs Aadya.
20:45 Local Time, 15:15 GMT: The rain is still on and now it's heavy enough for people to take cover. It's definitely going to be a curtailed game. Once it stops, one assumes, the groundstaff will need at least 30 minutes to get things ready.
20:25 Local Time, 14:55 GMT: There is still a light drizzle that is persisting. But just as we typed that the intensity has increased. Hopefully it will stop soon.
Kumar: Usually, when rain is expected, everyone prefers to bowl first. I wonder why Rahane decided to bat first.
20:12 Local Time, 14:42 GMT: But just to troll all of us, the drizzle is back on and they are rushing back with the covers again.
20:10 Local Time, 14:40 GMT: The rain was just light. In fact some people in the stands didn't feel the need to go under the shade. It's stopped completely now the covers are coming off.
19:47 Local Time, 14:17 GMT: It's heavy enough to bring the covers on. The pitch is covered, then the runups and soon the groundstaff rush to cover the rest of the outfield. Remember, they cover the entire ground here like they do in Sri Lanka so you don't have to worry too much about outfield being too wet.
Xavier Bartlett to Ajinkya Rahane, no run, defended
Xavier Bartlett to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, 5 runs, what was a good ball, turns out to be five runs for the batter and KKR. Full delivery moving away, Raghuvanshi was kind of squared up and he pushed this off the outer half to mid-off. Shreyas took aim at the bowler's end to try a runout but he missed the target. There was no one at short fine leg or fine leg to back up. So Jansen cut across from the off-side and he tried to stop it with a slide. Ended up deflecting it away from Shashank Singh who was behind him to stop the ball. Runs away to the fence for four extra runs
Xavier Bartlett to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, no run, brilliant full outie finishing around off stump, Raghuvanshi gives the full face of the bat in his defence
Xavier Bartlett to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, no run, advances to kill the swing and defends it back to the bowler, who threatens to have a shy at the stumps to send the batter back
End of Over 0: N/A runs, N/A wkts
Arshdeep Singh to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, 1 run, wristed through backward square leg
