Commentary
PBKS have now won 3 in a row against MI. And they have won 9 out of 11 chasing since the 2025 season. They are a chasing side and they proved it tonight. It would need something spectacular from teams batting first against them to win. MI have lots of issues and as Hardik Pandya said at the post-match presentation, he wants his team to figure it out. We will wait and watch if they can. Time to say our goodbyes for the night. We will be there tomorrow for another IPL game. See you then. For now it's sayanora from all of us here.
Arshdeep Singh | Player of the Match: "It feels really good. And it goes back to having a chat with Ricky in one of the training sessions. I told him I wasn't feeling the way I should feel, the ball is not coming out of my hand really well. And we had a nice peptalk with him. And it felt really well after that. The clear mindset he gave me in that chat. And even yesterday I came for training and I had a nice spot bowling session. And that was the time when I felt like the ball is coming out really nicely out of my hand. And the result was in front of you guys today. The ball was seaming a bit, the ball was swinging and the control was there. (on that chat with Ricky Ponting) Yeah, nothing technically, it was just how I can keep myself fresh mentally and how I was just expecting too much out of myself and not letting things to be simple and just going by the flow. Because he told me, you're coming off a high winning a World Cup and it's not easy to maintain that high all the time. So you just got to stick to the basics and have fun. That's the most important part of the game. Just enjoy it and stick to your basics. (on getting Rickelton with a wobble-seam ball) That's the ball I've been trying to work on. Saw Siraj got a lot of wickets with a scrambled seam. Still not there yet, but still trying to learn it as much as I can as a variation. And yeah, the seam was coming out really nice. I just wanted to change it a bit. Wasn't the way I wanted to get him out, but yeah, as a bowler in T20, you should take... whatever comes your way and just enjoy it. (on the wide yorker and the pace-off at the end) I mean, wide yorkers I have been bowling a lot. I mean, the wides I'm bowling a lot lately, but the plan is simple. If the batters are set, if the boundaries are huge on one side, you just use that boundary and make sure they don't hit towards the shorter part and towards what their strength is. So that's the plan. And sometimes when you back yourself, you feel like the yorker is coming out nicely, then you attack the stumps. And the batter is new, you attack the stumps. When the batter is set, you go wide. So you've just got to be sure always that you adapt before the batters knows what's coming. So that's the mindset and that's the planning and the team backs me always. (on the crowd support for them here) Yeah, loved the support and a lot of credit goes to my social media. I love making reels and I love posting on social media. So a lot of them know me by making reels. So I love it and I'll keep doing that for them. They have some fun watching that and I enjoy it as well. (we might see this then on social media tomorrow?) Sure thingy, you'll see a lot of reels coming."
Shreyas Iyer | PBKS captain: "Certainly confident and optimistic going forward. I think the way we've been playing so far, it's phenomenal. And also at the same time, you've got our heads on our shoulders. We know that each and every game that we're going to come on to the field, it's going to be important for us as a team and as a unit. So it's a collective effort overall and I'm glad that today we came up and we got that comprehensive victory. (on Prabhsimran) I think he has certainly raised up his bar, considering the last season where he was going in the power play, just swinging wild. Even though getting runs, he was giving us excellent starts. But this time I feel that, you know, he's got that maturity to finish off the game. And it's great to see youngsters coming up and finishing off the games, taking the responsibility and saying that, okay, I'm going to win the match for the team. So phenomenal player, talent, and other than that, I feel that the more matches he's getting, he's actually getting mature more and more. (on restricting MI) I think my catch (laughs). No, but obviously, we've got this tendency of pulling back the game, even against SRH the way we bowled after the powerplay, the guys came in together and said that, okay, we are going to see to it that, negate the boundaries as much as possible and be in the present and enjoy the moment rather than thinking way ahead of the game. (on how they will deal if they are going to bat first) Honestly speaking, we haven't decided about that as of now. I've been lucky to win the tosses so far. And, you know, always up for the challenge, batting first. We've got the batting lineup and a lot of positive players in the team who are ready for the opportunity to go out there and express themselves. (on getting better as a team) I personally feel you need to keep getting better each and every game. Just trying to challenge yourself rather than focusing on the opponents, what they bring onto the table. And that's what we've been doing. That's the recipe we've been following so far. So yes, as long as we are going to continue with the same recipe and it gets us success, I'm very happy. (more people now buying into the PBKS franchise?) Certainly, I've seen crowd coming in numbers and the way they've been cheering for the last couple of games. I think the fan-following is definitely going high and it's so good to see people coming in numbers and cheering for us, supporting and showering their love."
Prabhsimran Singh | Translated from Hindi: I was just believing in myself because the powerplay I didn't get many balls to play. So I was counting the number of balls in the starting. I think I was played 6-7 balls in the powerplay. But then in my mind I thought that if I take a little longer, I will be able to play. So I kept believing in myself that I will do it and I did it. (on his maturity in batting this season) Absolutely sir, I worked a lot. Actually, in the off-season, I worked a lot with Yuvi paaji (Yuvraj Singh). So whenever I talk to him, he says that you have a lot of time, you can play a little longer. So I just had this in mind that if I play till the end, then I can win it. (on facing Ghazanfar) I thought for the spinners that if I don't give them wickets as the ball was gripping, if I don't give wickets to them, then it will be easier against the others. (you attack from the start) At the start as we are chasing 200 scores we need to cash in the powerplay. But sometimes it happens that the wickets aren't like today. So then taking it long is important too. (on Shreyas Iyer) Our captain is very good. As a captain, when he talks, he gives us clarity. And he himself is playing such good batting. So it becomes easy to play with him.
Hardik Pandya | MI captain: "To be very honest, I don't have much to say right now. I think we really need to go back on the drawing board and see where are we lacking. Is it individuals? Is it as a group? Is it as planning? We'll just figure it out and see what we can do next. (20-50 short?) I think you need to give credit to them as well. The ball started reversing, and at that same point of time, the wicket was.. the dew didn't come. In the second inning, the dew came and it slightly got better, but having said that, they just outbeated us. They bowled better, they batted better, they fielded better, definitely, and that costed us the game. We really need to see, do we need to make some difficult calls or do we need to keep continuing and hope that we'll turn things around. These are some hard questions which eventually we need to answer and yeah, ownership has to be taken."

23:00 Local Time, 17:30 GMT, 23:00 IST: 4th loss in a row this season for MI. Pandya hugs Shreyas as the teams line up for the post-match handshakes. 196 was a par score as my colleague Akshay Maanay mentioned during the innings break. The way PBKS batted, even 250 wouldn't have tested them. They have made mincemeat of this MI bowling lineup. Yet again Bumrah went wicketless. Ghazanfar the impact sub took Arya and Connolly early but Prabhsimran Singh was in outstanding touch and then came skipper - Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas was on fire as he struck his first delivery for four through cover and never looked back. The highlight being his third-tier six against Shardul. The dew made it easy for PBKS but once Prabhsimran and Shreyas got together, the result was never in doubt. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...
Deepak Chahar to Marcus Stoinis, FOUR, PBKS thump MI at the Wankhede. Shreyas and the PBKS fans are so happy. This is a a juicy low full-toss outside off, Marcus Stoinis gets forward and drives, more off the thick inside half, beats long-on to his right, needed a dive but the fielder didn't put that
Deepak Chahar to Marcus Stoinis, wide, way outside off, seam-up and past the tramline outside off, left alone and wide called
Deepak Chahar to Marcus Stoinis, FOUR, low full-toss outside off, Marcus Stoinis gets forward to drive and the thick inside-edge misses off-stump and goes well wide of Quinton de Kock to his left, runs away fine for four
Deepak Chahar to Marcus Stoinis, no run, another slower-ball outside off, short of length and Marcus Stoinis goes on the back foot to cut, misses, this is well inside the tramline, so a dot
Deepak Chahar to Marcus Stoinis, wide, way outside off, the slower-ball and Marcus Stoinis cuts and misses, called a wide
Deepak Chahar [2.0-0-35-0] is back into the attack
End of Over 0: N/A runs, N/A wkts
Shardul Thakur to Marcus Stoinis, 1 run, full on middle, Stoinis gets forward and drills it hard and straight to long-on
